The Jalopnik edition of Gawker's gift guide really rubbed me the wrong way.

I can't help but think that its author (and probably many other people on Gawker) assume that our hobby is somehow antisocial, dangerous, and detrimental to humanity as a whole. We, car enthusiasts, led astray by the great evil of the automobile should be 'shown the light'. They seem to feel that it's their duty to point us into the direction of a happy, carless life. After all, if cars didn't exist the world would be such a great place!

Seriously, fuck this sort of ignorant attitude. Especially coming from people who think of themselves as extremely open minded.

What else did you expect from urban supremacy.com (Gawker)?

Of course our hobby is anti-social (to prius and beige appliance drivers), dangerous and detrimental to society. That's why I usually practice this hobby while shooting weapons carelessly into the air while talking on my cell phone smoking and binge drinking. High Five!

Judging by the other gift guides, it's intentionally incendiary. A joke methinks.

Shame though. I was halfway through writing a reply that ended with 'Oh, and in case I've been too reasonable so far. Quite royally fuck you. And the horse you rode in on. Because you don't need a car, obviously.'

We need horses though—for reference as a unit of power.

Good point.

We could convert it to people-power. That would show those bloody cyclists the way forward :)
